This latest sports tracker introduces several innovative features, including an integrated LED torch, improved smartwatch functions, and advanced training tools, all wrapped into a premium package. However, this cutting-edge technology comes with a higher price tag that may make some prospective buyers think twice.
The Forerunner 970 aims to be the ultimate running watch, building on the success of the Forerunner 965. A standout feature is the built-in LED torch, which is perfect for runners navigating dark trails or searching in dim areas. Users can adjust the brightness, with a red light option for indoor use, ensuring visibility without disturbing others.
The watch features a 47mm case and a vibrant 1.4-inch OLED screen shielded by durable sapphire glass and a titanium bezel. It introduces offline voice control, allowing wearers to set timers, alarms, and start activities without their phones. It also connects to your phone’s voice assistant for hands-free operation and enables you to take calls directly from your wrist.
The user interface has been upgraded for easier navigation to notifications, with features tailored for both iPhone and Android users. The Forerunner 970 supports Garmin Pay for contactless payments, though it has limited bank support. Music lovers can control playback on their phone or download playlists from popular platforms for running sessions without a device.
In terms of fitness tracking, the Forerunner 970 is equipped with the latest dual-band GPS technology for enhanced accuracy. The Gen 5 Elevate heart rate sensor not only tracks pulse with greater precision but also conducts ECG readings for monitoring heart health. This new release from Garmin showcases the brand’s commitment to advancing sports technology, but the question remains whether the enhanced features justify the higher price.
