Being part of a group is important for our health. Recently, scientists studied why feeling connected to others helps our mental health. Mental health is how we feel, for example, about stress, worry, and sadness. Many people feel these things more often now.
Researchers asked over 350 people questions. They asked how stressed, worried, or sad people felt. They also asked how connected people felt to a community, like their family or friends. Finally, they asked how people think about time – the past, the present, and the future.
The study discovered that people who felt more connected to a group had less stress, worry, and sadness. This shows that belonging to a community is good for your mental health.
The study also showed that thinking about time in a balanced way is important. It seems that thinking well about the past, present, and future helps the link between community and feeling good. So, having friends and thinking about time in a healthy way together can help you feel less worried or sad. This research says that both these things are important for feeling well.
